Popular Fad Diets and Diet Plans and
Healthy Eating Tips to Achieve Quick Weight Loss
There are many popular fad diets and countless diet plans to choose from, and the good thing is that almost every diet book written has some healthy eating tips that can help you to achieve quick weight loss and permanent weight loss.
Before I list and talk about the individual diets, I want to give you a perspective on healthy eating.
Many people say diets don't work, but I beg to differ. If diets don't work, then neither do baths. One argument about why diets don't work is that people gain weight when they go off their diet. Well, when was the last time you took a bath, hopefully in the past 24 hours. And when was the last time before that, and the time before that.
Bathing is a healthy habit, but in order to continue to experience the benefits you have to continually bathe. You can't shower one time and expect to stay clean for the rest of your life.
Healthy eating is the same as bathing. If you want to continually enjoy the benefits of healthy eating, then you must continue to eat healthy foods. This is simple fact of life that people overlook when it comes to dieting and many other things-- there is no way around continually putting in the work in order to continually receive the reward.
Another reason I think people say diets don't work is that they use the wrong definition for the diet.
Originally, the word diet actually means "way of life" or "regimen". However, in modern times the meaning of the word diet has evolved to mean restriction, deprivation, and starvation, and dieting is associated with extreme measures, lack of enjoyment of food, and developing will power. I don't think that deprivation and extreme measures are sustainable, so from that perspective I agree that that approach to dieting (way of life) won't yield long term results.
It's funny, but many nutrition experts say to think about healthy eating as a way of life, and I agree. To me, being on a healthy diet means having healthy eating habits not starvation.
I hope that adds some perspective, but if you still hate the word diet you don't have to use that word-- I was making a semantic argument. My hope is that, no matter which diet books you read, you will pick up healthy eating habits and keep doing them for the rest of your life.
Below is just a brief description of some popular diets.
Diet Plans and Healthy Eating Plans
The Zone Diet by Barry Sears, PhD
Enter the Zone by Barry Sears was written in 1995 and it still has significant popularity.
The main focus of the book is to balance your hormones and keep them in the optimal zone for health and weight loss by eating the correct ratio of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats at each meal.

The South Beach Diet Plan by Arthur Agatston, M.D.
Dr. Arthur Agatston is a cardiologist by profession, and he initially created the South Beach Diet for his chronically overweight heart patients.
Like Barry Sears, Dr. Agatston focuses on good carbs versus bad carbs. The South Beach Diet 3 phases, with the first phase being a stricter 2 week regimen. The concepts in the book are explained in a simple and straight forward manner and like most popular diet books has a large recipe section.
The Fat Flush Plan by Ann Louise Gittleman, M.S., C.N.S.
The Fat Flush Plan focuses on eating keeping your liver healthy. In her book, Ann Louise Gittleman explains that the liver is your major fat burning organ. She also explains that when your diet is full of toxic foods your liver has to spend more time cleansing your blood, so your liver is less able to help your body burn fat.
She's a huge fan of cranberries, flax seed oil, and fiber.
