Swiss Ball Core Exercises: Cable Ab Crunches
There are many exercise ball core exercises that you can include in your core workouts. Cable Ab Crunches are one of the best Swiss ball core exercises.
When performing ball core exercises, you get more range of motion which leads to increased core strengthening. Also, because the ball is unstable, your core muscles work harder to keep you balanced and stable.
Below are the instructions for cable ab crunches on an exercise ball.
Exercise Ball Core Exercises
Using cables to add resistance is a great way to increase your core strength. When you use a cable versus a dumbbell, you get a constant tension on your core and abdominal muscles.
Starting Position: You should position handles or a rope at the bottom of a cable machine. Sit on an exercise ball while holding the handles at your sides.
Roll yourself onto the Swiss ball so that your back is on the ball and your hips are towards the edge of the ball. Hold the handles at shoulder or head level.
Form: While keeping your arms still, exhale and crunch your upper body towards your legs. Hold for a brief second and then slowly return to the starting position.
Personal Trainer Tips: This can be a tricky exercise to get into, but once you've mastered the starting position, you'll feel a lot of work in your ab and core muscles.
The wider you place your feet the more stability you will have. Bringing your feet together challenges your stability a little more.
Summary
Cable ab crunches are a great way to increase your core strength. After mastering regular crunches on the floor, try crunches on an exercise ball. After you've mastered crunches on the ball, try adding some additional resistance by using cables.
If you don't have access to a cable machine, you can use resistance bands or exercise tubing to add some additional resistance.
