Stability Ball Oblique Crunches with Cables
Best Abdominal Exercises and Core Exercises
If you want to be creative you can do stability ball oblique crunches with cables to add even more resistance and challenge your oblique muscles.
You can do cable crunches for the oblique while lying on the floor, but you can get more range of motion on the stability ball.
Stability Ball Oblique Cable Crunches
Starting Position: Attach a rope or two handles to the bottom part of a cable machine or adjust a cable machine so that the resistance is about at the level of a stability ball. Lie on the ball in the crunch position and grab the handles or rope so that it is over your head.
Form: Exhale and crunch your body forwards like in a regular crunch, but as you get to the top rotate your body so that one elbow moves towards the opposite knee. Hold briefly at the top and slowly lower to the starting position.
Personal Trainer Tips: This can be a fun exercise, and it can relieve workout boredom.
Try to keep your hands in a stationary position and focus on moving from your spine and not your arms.
You can do this exercise 2 ways. You can do all the reps on one side and then switch to the other side, or you can do it by alternating sides.
Move in a slow and controlled manner, and aim for 10-25 repetitions per set.
This is just one exercise for your obliques. If you don't have access to a cable machine or a stability ball try another oblique exercise on this site.
But remember that oblique exercises by themselves won't get rid of your love handles or give you a 6 pack. If you want to lose stomach fat you must take a comprehensive approach to fitness and health.
