Best Abdominal Exercises and Core Exercises
Below is an abdominal oblique exercise you can do with cables or resistance bands.
Cables exercises are great for the obliques because they allow you to move in multiple planes and perform rotational movements. Cables also can add a little extra resistance to your abdominals to further increase your strength.
Standing Cable Side Bends for the Oblique Muscles
Starting Position: Attach a handle to the top part of a cable machine. Grab the handle and pull down the weight so that your hand is at should level. Keep your elbow tucked at your side.
Form: While keeping your elbow tucked by your side, bend your waist towards the cable machine. Hold for a brief second to feel the tension in your obliques, and then slowly rise to the starting position.
Personal Trainer Tips: Try to focus on moving your waist and your spine not your hips. Try to keep your hips stationary, and move in a slow and controlled manner.
If you have trouble keeping your hips still you can also do this exercise from a kneeling position.
This is just one exercise for your oblique muscles. If you don't have access to a cable machine try another oblique exercise on this site.
But remember that ab exercises by themselves won't get rid of your love handles or give you a 6 pack. If you want to lose stomach fat you must take a comprehensive approach to fitness and health.
